welder training on site to BS4872 The
ratio of trainees to instructors on the course will affect the time of instruction
for each trainee. The higher the ratio the less time available for instruction,
one to one being the best ratio, up to 4 trainees would be acceptable There
is no exact time set for the course it will be determined by the standard required
by the customer, welder ability and previous experience A pre course assessment
would help with the decision making. A Company visit would be an advantage
to finalise the requirements for the course Purpose
of Course: To take a non-welding employee up to BS 4872-certificated
welder in Manual metal arc welding (MMA) with the ability to use the skills learnt
on practical workshop problems and tasks. Designed
for: A person with little or no experience of MMA welding and requires
formal training and certification Persons with none or little skill in the
welding field. Welders requiring to increase their skill level to test standard

Objectives Operate MMA welding plant Produce welds to BS 1295.
Have the knowledge, experience and confidence to use these skills on basic
welding jobs in the workshop Make safe and effective repairs Operate
within the Heath and Safety at Work Act. Training
Methods The course is all practical welding takes place at the bench
maximising the time for practical work and all lectures take place at the bench
during the practical sessions Lectures
on Risk assessment methods Control of substances hazardous
to health (COSHH) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Process applications
Uses of AC and DC power sources Machine assembly and settings Practical
work for a trainee with little or no experience of this process would be
